Carolyn and Darren in the Land of Oz
On matters of life and love in Seattle
I've begun posting our vacation pictures to the site, so now everyone NOT on facebook can see what we were up to.
I tried to link some of you to the other pictures but apparently that didn't turn out so well. No fear, that's why I started this site in
the first place - you'll find the new photos in our gallery and over the next few spare cycles I'll try to move more and more of them over.
I think we took well over 400 pictures while we were there - I'll slim that down a bit though, there's only so much people can stand my
limitless attempts at self-portraiture.
Oh, and of course there's the news of our beloved daughter, who will make her debut around the first of 2010! I think exclamation points
do little towards expressing our delight over her arrival but that's what our language limits me with. Regardless, so far the pregnancy
has gone relatively smoothly, a fact we're hoping will continue up through delivery. It hasn't been all roses of course, I mean we are
first time parents and therefore reserve the right to panic at any and odd times when it suits us. We were just at the Phinney Ridge
Neighborhood Center buying tons of second hand clothes. We probably bought too many one-sies but honestly, can you have too many? Oh,
and we've picked up a pack-n-play and tub so we can cross that off our lists.
Sorry for the delay on this everyone, I hadn't remembered to restart the cron job that builds my image directories so nothing
changed. NOW our engagement photos from the Stumbling Goat are up :) Enjoy!
Also, C and I are taking off to Indianapolis tomorrow to spend the holiday with her family. We could definitely use the time off, and
it'll be great to spend some more time with them. We haven't seen them for almost a year - it's one of the few (albeit major) pitfalls of living
in Seattle: both of our families live in the first time zone, which puts a lot of distance between us.
Ok, so another little piece of news: we've also set the date. As things stand currently we'll be married at the Villa at Little Cape Horn
on December 31, 2008. Yes, that's in a little over a month, right in the middle of the Christmas holidays. But you have to admit: it's not a
hard day to forget. I mean the worst that could happen is that one of us forgets there are 31 days in December ... I would never do something like
that...eh-hem...not me. Anyway, keep an eye out for invitations. We're DEFINITELY excited about this: from now on the whole world will unite before
midnight to celebrate our marriage, at least those observing the Western New Year. Keep an eye out for the invitations. We actually need to keep the guest list
to about 15 (yup, that's not a typo '1-5' or fifteen) because we're taking advantage of the Villa's elopment package. Little Cape Horn is also a
ways from Seattle - about 2.5 hours south. It's closer to Portland so if you're flying in that would be the easier bet if you're only staying for the
ceremony.
Stay tuned for more updates. I'm getting better at managing the site...
She said YES !!!
Despite some technical difficulties the proposal was well received!
Now we get to plan the wedding, which I can say personally that both of us are looking forward to it.
Stay tuned, there will be more updates in the near future, but to both of our families:
Thanks for loving us both so much. We're very much looking forward to sharing this with you.

Carolyn, would you do me the honor of clicking on this simple little link?
So I asked Carolyn about her experience at the middle school and apparently things
didn't go as smoothly as before. After she stopped twitching she mentioned the kids weren't as well
behaved this time around, and that she and her partner had a hard time keeping them on track and
involved. This comes as a complete shock - I mean, I remember being perfect at that age so what
the heck is happening to the younger generation?!
Also, C heard from her friend Melanie Hasslinger. For those of you who are wondering or curious,
Melanie is a recent inductee into the Peace Corp and is currently in Madagascar. Her report was
positive but not without a sense of frustration. She mentioned that she's getting into a good routine,
but the language has been difficult to pick up and this has proven to be an obstacle for her work.
She's upbeat about things however, so we'll continue to cross our fingers and send an occasional care package.
Today Carolyn is visiting a local middle school to present issues related to climate change and the environment. Her company informally sponsors the program here in Seattle, although it may be available in other parts of the country. This is the second time she's made the trip to the school and I'm hoping the students will be more cooperative this time around...
Well, this is my nth attempt to change the site to something we like. It seems like every time I learn new CSS or HTML tricks I get the bug to change the site. Anyway, anyone keeping track will soon lose count, but rest assured our home on the web lives on!
